Apr 08, 2019 · I use ESXi in my lab and need to deploy new VM’s on a regular basis. Whenever possible, I use an OVA/OVF deployment as this is very handy and easy. Unfortunately, I have no vSphere license so I use the ESXi embedded host client for administration. This shiny web UI has one drawback. It cannot deploy OVA/OVF images with compressed disks.

Step 2: Import into the VMware ESXi Host. To create a new VM image for the event broker, you must import the OVA file into the VMware ESXi host, and once it is imported, you can start the event broker instance. To import, then start the event broker, do the following: Launch a vSphere Client, and then choose File > Deploy OVF Template.
Once you have downloaded the OVA file, please follow the steps below to deploy the virtual Appliance via VMware vSphere / vCenter Server: Log in to the VMware vSphere Web Client and go to the VMs tab ; Add the Deploy OVF Template action button via the Actions dropdown list ; Then click the newly added Deploy OVF Template button On the source device, log on to the VMware ESXi server using vSphere client (see Task 6: Using vSphere Client to Log On to the VMware ESXi Server ). Select the custom sandbox in the inventory. Click File → Export → Export OVF Template. If the connection is poor, the OVA deployment can take hours, or timeout and fail. You can minimize this problem if you host the image on a device in the same network as the ESXi host. Any firewalls in the path must allow TCP ports 902 and 443 from the vSphere client to the ESXi host(s).
